Timurid Emir (Poste Militaire)

An old Julian Hullis sculpt, I was very happy to see this in production again, so I finally got round to painting it about fifteen years after I first saw it. And now I'll get to see how some larger pics are handled.

The figure originally comes with a set of three square steps, receeding on two sides to a corner. I think you can find an example on CMoN that uses them. Anyway, I canabalised those to produce this base to give the appearance of steps leading out into the hall. however, in order to space the steps far enough apart to seem reasonable, an also keep the characters view point so it seemed he was looking into the hall the position of the left foot was sort of forced.

Wow! While I was first mesmorized by the figure itself, it was my wife that pointed out the detail that was inherant in the base as well. All round - great piece of art.

Excellent work - nicely presented and painted. The only thing that doesn't quite gel for me is the position of his left foot on the steps - I would have had the whole foot on the step, rather than just the toes as it seems to make the pose less natural.
